Our timing couldn’t have been better! After postponing due to orange rain warnings, our back-up date proved to be the right call.
Tenants from Chequers Ave, Donny Ave and Bankwood Rd joined us at Comries Ave in Hamilton for a day all about being prepared, connected and ready.
With recent weather events across the motu front of mind, we brought together local emergency and community groups to share practical tips, answer questions and help everyone feel more confident about what to do in an emergency.
Armed with their “expo passports”, tenants made their way around each stall, having great conversations and picking up goodies to start building their own emergency “grab bags” at home.
Congratulations to Annika Hansen who was one of the lucky winners of a fully kitted out Go Bag, kindly donated by HCC Emergency Management.
A massive thank you to Hato Hone St John, Neighbourhood Support, Age Concern Waikato, Hamilton City Council Emergency Management, Here to Help U, and Fire and Emergency New Zealand (especially for the live kitchen fire demo, which definitely got everyone’s attention!) And a special shoutout to Judith from Little Cherry Coffee Cart for keeping everyone energised and well caffeinated throughout the morning.
This initiative reflects our commitment to the people we support and how important community is. When we join forces, we strengthen connections, share knowledge, build resilience and look out for each other.
Mahi tahi – working together (it really is better this way).
